7. Clock Tower and Sardar Market, Jodhpur: Bustling Bazaars

Dive into the vibrant heart of Jodhpur during his reign in 1910, Raja Sardar Singh constructed a 100 feet high clock tower in the middle of Sardar Market near Nayi Mandi and got a clock installed in it at a cost of Rs 3 lakh. Out of which the cost of the watch is Rs 1 lakh, the cost of fitting it is Rs 1 lakh and the cost of not making its second shape is Rs 1 lakh, totaling Rs 3 lakh.

This clock is installed in the upper three floors of the clock tower, which was manufactured by the London Company Lund & Blockley. Its four dials, which appear simple from outside, are internally connected to the mechanical parts of the same machine. Its key is filled only once a week on Thursday. The weight of the key is 10 kg.

There are three solid iron weights installed in this clock. The weight of the first is 2 quintals, the weight of the second is 1 quintal and the weight of the third is 1.25 quintal. The diameter of the four dials is 6 feet, the length of the big needle is 3 feet and the length of the small needle is 2 feet.

Mr. Mohd Iqbal, who is behind clicking of the Clock Tower. He is from the second generation of his family who is maintaining this Clock Tower since 1968. He and his son Mr. Mohd. Shakeel are the only persons who know how to make this complex clock work.
